I've been meaning to do this for a long time. I wanted to do a series of some of my heroes. I can't say enough of how much this man's life influences mine. I remember writing a poem about Detroit Red when I was in 10th grade.

On the way to Ex'pression @ 10:30am via bike & foot because i got a flat w/1mile to go! I was thinking it may not be as fun as last week because it would be a male this time. And with my experience its rare to get a strong defined male model but this Saturday we were in luck! It was definately worth the walk back in the pouring rain.

*note* the images are being show in the order that i drew them. Starting off with 5 minute poses then 10 and finally 20s.

When I challenged myself to improve my versions of the female form. I'm still not confident w/drawing women. I need a lot more practice...
but still I climb.
I want to be able to draw females in any pose from memory.
I also want my own model.
That would be nice.

\\\You can learn a lot about yourself in 2min with a pen,pencil,and/or charcoal. I sure did, can you tell? Within those 120 seconds you have only enough time to put down the bare bones of the drawing, the foundation. It's about getting proportion down as fast and accurate as possible. I'm never too critical of myself in this phase, hell it's only 2minutes.
Next is 5mins, then 10, then 20s!
So the 2mins is really like your stretch before the marathon of what is timed Figure Drawing. And I will try my best to continue this exercise as long as I live!

I don't know if there is anything i'd rather spend my b-day morning that doing some figure drawing. Nothing beats real live models with good lighting >_< No matter what the shape there's always something you can learn about the form. Props and textures always make it fun.

this style is very similar to his.
I remember reading Batman Year 100 a few years back
and his style always fascinated me,
so i think i picked it up slightly just through appreciation.

The black eye was inspired by this Gorillaz piece for Plastic Beach.

He looks like a New Yorker or maybe a middle eastern fellow? I definitely can hear a Brooklyn accent when i imagine it.

My direct response to that statement is: What do you define as success?

Ever since returning back for my junior year in high school I realized I wanted to grow up to be a successful artist. In Chile.
Not knowing how I was going to get there, but what art-form I would choose.
The Pen.
They say "The pen is mightier than the sword"
But they never said what kind of pen >_<
pen, pencil, bow, flute, vocal it doesn't matter.

The art is what matters.

When I went to Chile that 7th time for my summer I saw cousin's art framed in his parents house. I thought "Oh, that's nice." And by the way it was an amazing self portrait(profile) done with white chalk on black paper. I also saw my cousin start his own business in the capitol, Santiago. Only until many years later would i realize that, those little music,record,graffiti, clothing shops were the 1st of it's kind for THE COUNTRY of Chile.

Now, I can confidently say that my 1st cousin Nelson (Cekis) Rivas II was apart of the catalyst for the movement and growth of Hip Hop in that part of the country and continent.
Nelson now resides in a lovely concrete jungle known as Brooklyn. He flourished in Chile then flew to my country The US of A and I ultimately want to return the favor.
That simple, in its concept.

Life is about enjoyment, doing what you love. You don't have to be on your death bed to realize that.
And I think life will love you back in return.

Of course this is a overly optimistic opinion right now.
(& for the record I would like to state that "Life isn't fair and is painful")

I'm really happy how this came out. Colors are my soft spot so i get usually get out of it by keeping it simple. I just started with at gray base and added into the wrinkles with a 25% black brush. It was important to add and erase small details in the corner to make the forms pop. The splatter is just a brush set i downloaded online. Most of the layers were blended together using 'Overlay', 'Soft light', 'Exclusion' and 'Hard Light'

I must admit, I haven't been keeping up with my own blog lately but i have been following others via GoogleReader. It seems like all i have time for is just right clicking and adding images to my visualize account. Plus my flickr account is easier to add to than blogger.

But now i've returned and am trying to say that i've been working full time as a Production/Technical Assistant @ Slash FX since last Sept. It has truely been a blessing in more ways that i can count. Being surrounded with veterans of VFX industry and hearing all the wonderful and horror stories of different productions. AND now i can say that i've part of that ilustrious group of movie makers. Rotoscoping counts right??? Percy Jackson & The Lightening Thief is apart of my resume now and i'm currently rotoing on another film due out later this year.

All of this wouldn't be possible without the help of my fellow Ex'pressionist Joya Clark, a brilliant, kindhearted soul who has changed my life forever.

Yesterday I went w/my 2 roommates Seth & Angleo to check out SF Open Studio . I only caught up with them to catch 3 out of the 80+ open studios but i can't remember their names at this moment. They where all very nice, talented, open-armed, sellers of fine art. Of course i couldn't afford anything thing there but the experience was priceless. I couldn't even imagine anyone paying so much for something easily produce, but thats all part of game. Your name is everything.

What i did in Photoshop in 5min could probably sell for $$$$ if printed big enough or framed nicely with moody lighting presenting it. Presentation is key!

it's called PROTOTYPE
it textures are pretty low res, animation's clunky, and the story is ehhh.
but i can't stop playing it >_<
its like Venom + GTA + Resident Evil + NY = lots of fun.

So, I took a screen shot.

Then I wanted to play with it in PS

*i just wanted to create a sort of apocalyptic feel

*Blur + Burn/Dodge + brush + color blend + vignette

* Originally i just wanted to save the swat costume

but i fell in love w/the view :P

what a fun exercise! especially with your new roommates! I got home and they said "30 minute female robot assassin!" and after solving some technique difficulties w/my computer we took off in unison. This is what I came up with.

all PS. it helped a lot being able to select certain features and fix the proportions. This was a fun exercise. In doing this I learned an important fact out creatures with SNOUTs. The snout is a 4 in 1 combo: Nose, Mouth, Jaw & Chin. So don't you forget it!
